Pastor Alex as he smiles at his congregation

Wilkister, "mother" of orphans in need

I am Wilkister Malaba, age 37 years old, married to Patrick Wekesa 17 years ago. Before I joined Alpha, my life was of no hope, very lonely and desperate. I recall living a life of discouragement as a beggar to sustain my life. Fortunately I knew that there is God, but I didn't know that there is salvation through faith. I used to spend my time listening to KBC programme called "Word" every Sunday. I didn't know that there is power by having fellowship with others. I used to be alone always with a broken heart, by being childless my heart tells me there is nothing in the world.

Since I joined Alpha in the year 2008, God awakened my heart through Alpha teachings like: "How do I pray?", What does the Holy Spirit do?”, “How can I make the most of the rest of my life?”, etc. I was introduced to Alpha by Pastor Alex and his friend Wycliffe and it has been a turning point in my life. All the weight that I used to carry on my shoulders was brought down by Alpha.

I thank God Almighty for Brother Bruce and the team, who carry together this vision that the Lord gave to him. Through you we have Alpha in Webuye where through Alpha Teachings it enabled me to join Alpha tailoring course where I have now fully qualified to make very nice dresses for ladies and even for flower girls. Alpha trained me and coached me on how to train others in tailoring. We now have 7 widow graduates and 7 youth graduates since 2010.

Before, I was just a beggar, but now I am a provider and even support 2 orphans and 4 homeless children aged 16, 13, 12, 9, 6, and 2 years old. The most recent child, Faith Hadaza lost her mother last August.

Like a mother who gave birth to a baby who feels so comfortable when she sees her child walking and even running, Alpha at its present has changed many lives positively both spiritually and economically. To me, Alpha is a tool of moulding people from nothing to something. Alpha has enabled us to reach prisoners like Bungoma, Kakamega, and Kitale, ex-offenders like Webuye propation and even high schools like Webuye DEB Secondary School and St. Mathews Secondary School. We introduced them to the importance of Alpha teachings and encouraged them by the Word of God. As Alpha group, we volunteer to provide school fees for 3 students in those schools. Through them we have a privilege to reach other students and even teachers.

Our vision and target is; through your prayer and support, that God opens for us to register a company so that it will enable us to open a Tailoring Shopping Centre, and to look for supply tenders from government, schools, hotels, hospitals, and other organizations to supply ready-made uniforms.

May God bless you all.
